Community Rescue Boats Ireland (CRBI)

LifeboatThe Community Rescue Boats Ireland (CRBI) are a nationwide group of independent voluntary rescue boats which are trained and administrated by Irish Water Safety. They are declared resource (DR) and available to the Coast Guard, who respond to emergencies in their area of responsibility on a 24/7/365 basis. These teams have traditionally been set up following drowning tragedies in their communities. Other Rescue Boats are used as vessels of opportunity by the Coast Guard.

There are a number of other Communities in Ireland that also operate Rescue and/or Recovery Craft which have passed an IWS VAT Inspection but are not recognised by the Coast Guard as a declared resource (DR). The following list is where Irish Water Safety are aware that these communities have operated rescue/recovery craft. Their inclusion does not indicate in any way whether a boat or organisation will be found suitable for CRBI status in the future. The majority of the work completed by these vessls below is in search and recovery which is a very important aspect of our work.
