Carlow has four recognized freshwater bathing areas on the River Barrow.
Lifeguard Cover from 1400 - 1700 and 1800 - 2000 in July and August
01 Leighlinbridge NO Lifeguard Service provided
(adiacent to the public boat berthing area in the village)
It is located off the main Dublin/Waterford road route - 8 miles south of Carlow town.
The public boat berthing area is located centrally in the village adjacent to the old bridge, opposite The Garrison/Black Castle and The Lord Bagenal Restuarant where a private marina has been established.
02 Bagenalstown (adjacent to open space/amenity area close to the Community Swimming Pool) The public bathing area is located 2 miles downstream from Leighlinbridge and is accessible off the Leighlinbridge-Bagenalstown road.
Car parking facilities are available immediately adjacent to the high quality Community operated Swimming Pool. The bathing area is bordered on the Pool/Roadside by a walled, well maintained mature open green space and by a weir adjacent to farm land on the far side.
03 Clashganna Borris (remote scenic area approximately 3 miles downstream from Borris adjacent to weir) The public bathing area is located in a scenic wooded valley 3 miles downstream from the village of Borris. Clashganna is very popular with bathers from the locality and the nearby town of Graiguenamanagh. Access is gained by travelling down a narrow cul-de-sac (on the right hand side) off the regional road 3 miles travelling from Borris to Graiguenamanagh.

Lifeguard Service is also available:

Open for three sessions at weekends.
Admission:
Adults: 5e, Children: 3e and Spectators: 1e.
Membership:
Adult: 120e, Student: 8e and Family: 250e
Lifeguard & Supervisor on duty at all times.
Suitable for toddlers.

Directions: On road R173 Dundalk to Greenore, turn right at Grange Crossroads and follow the signposts to the beach.
Port Beach:
Times: 1100 to 1800 each day. Dates: June 15th to 31st August.
Directions: Adjacent to Clogher Head. Travelling from Dunleer to Clogherhead turn left at Clogherhead Church and continue until you arrive at Beach Carpark. Distance: 2 miles approx.
Clogherhead:
Times: 1100 to 1800 Dates: 19/06/07 until 31/08/07 each day.
Directions: In Clogherhead village turn left at bottom of Main Street coming from the Dunleer direction and follow signs for the beach.
